The Garces Poetry Guild meets three-to-five times a month in order to read, and listen to others read, poems of all sorts.
Student members who write poems are challenged to have fun with different forms and themes, those who are songwriters often try out their new songs and/or lyrics with their peers, non-poets who simply enjoy reading or talking about poems are given the freedom to bring in works they love or have recently discovered.
All styles of poetry are accepted, from Coleridge to Collins, pentameter to modern, from haiku to Hipster, from sonnets to Slam.
Our high-spirited meetings are held at lunchtime, and various local field trips are planned each year.
Advised by English instructors (Porter Jamison, Crystal Huddleston, Mark Detloff), meetings of the student-governed Guild are open to all: members, potential members, guests and faculty.
