Scholarship for Service

What is CSF?

The California Scholarship Federation (CSF) emphasizes high standards of scholarship and community service for California high school students. Founded in 1921, the California Scholarship Federation is the oldest scholarship institution in the state of California.

How do I join?

Students who earn 10 points can join CSF. Membership is by application only and applications must be filled out each semester. For details on the point system, please see either Mrs. Kloock or a student officer.

What are the other requirements?

For full CSF honors at graduation, each student must apply and qualify for CSF membership 4 of their last six semesters of high school, at least one of which must be based on senior grades. In addition to this, students at Garces Memorial High School are required to fulfill 12 CSF service hours.

How do I get CSF service hours?

The easiest way is to sign up for hours in room 72. Generally there are three ways to earn CSF hours: 1) work the book sale; 2) tutor other students (in the appointed place at the appointed time); 3) work on the annual service project.

All CSF hours should be approved prior to completion. The requirements change every year so you should double check before completing the hours.

What does CSF do for Garces?

CSF offers free drop-in tutoring in virtually every class. Tutoring is generally held every green day from 3:00 – 4:00 in room 72.

CSF also does service projects for the school. For example in the AY 2011-2012 we are painting the Special People Day booths to make the atmosphere more festive for our guests.

CSF also hosts the used book sale for the campus. Students can bring in books to sell (there is no guarantee of purchase), and can come purchase books (there is no guarantee of availability).

Who can I talk to about this?

Please feel free to e-mail or see Mrs. Kloock or any of the student officers. (Parents are welcome to come ask questions as well.)
