Welcome to Garces Memorial High School

G arces Memorial High School is Bakersfield, California's premier High School. Garces Memorial is an academically challenging, college preparatory, co-educational Catholic high school, founded in 1947 by the Christian Brothers and Dominican Sisters of St. Thomas Aquinas. Today it is operated by the Diocese of Fresno and staffed by a lay faculty and administration who are inspired by their Catholic faith to minister to the needs of the student body.

Our Mission

Garces Memorial is a Catholic, coeducational, college preparatory high school. Our school educates youth to fulfill the mission of Christ by developing students spiritually, intellectually, and socially. Our mission calls us to instill in every member of the Garces Memorial community respect, integrity, compassion, and courage of faith.

Spiritually Connected

Garces students grow in their faith through daily prayer, all school Masses, theology classes, community service projects and by practicing moral and ethical behavior.

Academically Prepared

Garces Memorial is one of the most challenging high schools in the Central Valley; our college preparatory curriculum demands a strong academic commitment from all of our students. Garces graduates are prepared to excel whether they attend BC or MIT.

Socially Aware

Garces students are encouraged to participate in extra-curricular activities, develop healthly lifestyle habits and to serve others who are less fortunate.

Athletics

Garces has one of the most successful sports programs in the history of the Central Section CIF, ranked fourth all-time with 112 Central Section team championships, as well as dozens of individual championships in swimming, diving, tennis, golf, track and cross-country.
