Long Range Plan
While campus expansion and updating facilities has been a consistent theme throughout our history, Garces Memorial High School has always focused on the development of the spiritual, intellectual, physical and cultural aspects of the entire person. Now after five decades of growth and with over 700 students enrolled, Garces is an outstanding Catholic high school providing Kern County students with exceptional educational opportunities. Our alumni continue to provide leadership in business, medicine, government and education.
In 1995, the Garces Board of Directors and Bishop John Steinbock approved the long range plan, a 15 year strategic action plan to continue the Garces tradition of top quality, student centered education while guiding a dramatic transformation of the physical plant. Crafted by a group of dedicated supporters in consultation with the school staff and administration, the plan laid out a blueprint for the future of Garces Memorial High School.
Certain factors were considered in prioritizing the renovation and building projects within the Long Range plan . All the aging buildings have been refurbished / upgraded and a new library, chapel and administration building were created. Significant improvements have been made to add the computers and networking needed to help our students deal with the Internet. The grounds have also received a great deal of attention and many alumni comment that the campus has never looked better.
There is still a great deal to do to achieve the remainder of our goals. Plans are being considered for a Fine Arts Center and we need to address the issue of an aging gymnasium. As we work to increase enrollment we will need to add a new science classroom and rebuild new classrooms that will be energy efficient, provide for technological innovations and be attractive, efficient learning spaces.
Garces Memorial High School stands today as a living testament to the hard work, enthusiasm and generosity of the people, pastors, sisters, and brothers who built the school. As we look toward the future we do so with hope and a conviction to keep the Garces tradition alive. We are counting on our alumni and friends to assist us in this mission.
