GMHS Sports Medicine Procedures and Policies for Athletes & Parents:
1. All students who wish to participate in athletics must have a physical prior to the start of the season.
2. All injuries that occur while participating at G.M.H.S. must be reported to the Athletic Trainer as soon as possible. An assessment will be made of the injury and a determination will be made as to the level of care needed.
3. All athletes must notify the Athletic Trainer before seeing a doctor for any sports related injury. The Athletic Trainer has medical forms available that should be obtained before going to a physician. The Athletic Trainer will also issue any necessary insurance claim forms.
4. Any athlete seeing a doctor for any reason must have a signed doctor's release to return to active status. The athlete will not be allowed to practice or participate in any way until a release is authorized.
5. All athletes seen in the Training Center are required to have clearance from the Athletic Trainer before re-entering practice.
6. All athletes requiring treatment are expected to report to the Training Center early to receive treatment. Athletes who report late for treatment or evaluation and are subsequently late for practice, may be subject to disciplinary action by his/her coach. However, if athletes report on time and are ready for treatment but the Athletic Trainer cannot get to them immediately, the they will be given a note by the Athletic Trainer.
7. Arrangements can be made with the Athletic Trainer for additional therapy on an individual basis.
8. Any and all equipment problems that arise should be reported to the coach immediately! It is the responsibility of the athlete to monitor his/her equipment for any damage or fit problems. The coaches will repair any equipment problems that occur.
9. G.M.H.S. operates a professional treatment center. All students are expected to act in a manner reflective of the high standards and principles Garces Memorial strives to maintain.
